Overview

Peoplestech.org is a place where people can come together for education and activism about the scourge of digital colonialism, capitalism, and its alternatives. Taking an ecosocialist approach to the world situation, we contextualize our understanding of the digital society to the science and politics of degrowth. Humans are extracting resources at a rate which is destroying our one and only planet, and much of the living world with it. The need to reduce and cap total resource use leaves us with no option than to abolish class throughout the world. The United States is the central culprit — especially in the digital realm — and we therefore concentrate our efforts on resisting American Empire and its propaganda centers. The US is far from the only culprit, however, and so we are also dedicated to resisting power elites everywhere, from Europe and China to the digital compradores and capitalists in the Global South.

Our Mission

People’s Tech offers a unique take on the digital society. Merging opposition to digital colonialism with degrowth, we aim to shift the paradigm of how we understand the digital society while presenting solutions required to build a free and equal future. To this effect, we offer education, resources, and a space for activists to come together and build campaigns to agitate against the forces of digital colonialism and ecocide.

The current portrayal of the digital society is dominated by elite intellectuals and institutions centered in the United States. Often backed by money from Big Tech, Big Foundations, and rich philanthropists, the leading forces of the so-called tech “left” have long misled the masses and manufactured consent for the American Empire. We are countering this narrative by shedding light on the dangerous reality of a digitized world powering American hegemony at precisely the time that the Global North — and to a lesser extent, elites in the Global South — are leading us all towards an irreversible environmental catastrophe.

The present situation requires new education and understanding. However, we all know that nothing will change without a vision for a fundamentally different world and agitation to get us there. To this effect, we provide an ongoing and updated set of resources about what each one of us can do to resist the forces of digital colonialism, as well as a space for us to build networks and launch campaigns of direct action.

Resisting digital colonialism and capitalism is not only a matter of social justice, it’s a matter of our very survival. Time is not on our side, and we must act quickly to raise consciousness and take action, before it is too late.
